Worship That Points to the King.

About
Worship That Points to the King. This is my story, in my own words — the life I have published, and the ministry I am doing now. When I name stages I have shared, that is my account. It is not an endorsement.

Identity
You may also know me as James Okon, and as James Uko Okon.
Worship That Points to the King.
I am based in Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas. I am available for ministry invitations worldwide.
Worship philosophy
The song is a pointer. We gather for the King, not for the person holding the microphone.
This is my line, and it is the aim of the training I give: a congregation that knows how to meet God. Musical presentation serves that aim. It is not the aim.
Feeling can accompany worship. It is not a substitute for it. I train skill and spirit to stand in the same room.
Mission
I am Pastor James Okon. You may also know me as James Okon, or as James Uko Okon. I am a gospel recording artist, a worship leader, a pastor, and a choir trainer. I live in Dallas–Fort Worth, and I am available for ministry invitations worldwide.
I am originally from Nigeria. Between 1996 and 2000 I completed a four-year degree in History, International Relations, and Education at Lagos State University. I then studied at Rhema Bible Training Centre in South Africa. There I earned a certificate in Creative Ministries with a music major, a diploma and a higher diploma in ministerial training, a diploma by correspondence with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London, and a certificate in Christian Counseling.
I am an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God. I served as Regional Music Director for RCCG Southern Africa Region 2, covering seven SADC countries, and I was based in Johannesburg from 2001. I now live and minister in Dallas, Texas.
On my channel you will see me leading worship and directing choir at RCCG Grace Chapel in Dallas. I have also ministered at RCCG New Life Church, Dallas. I am a believer, a husband, and a father. My wife is Uche Cynthia James, and our daughter is Aviela.
In South Africa I ministered at festivals and concerts in Johannesburg, Middelburg, Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London, and Limpopo, and at the Macufe festival in the Free State. I also sang at the SABC Crown Gospel Awards and the Trumpet Africa Gospel Awards. I was a two-time Crown Gospel Awards nominee, and I sat on the panel of judges for One Gospel’s Voice of One choir competition.
I have shared stages with ministers including Bishop Benjamin Dube, Dr. Ron Kenoly, Israel Houghton, Kirk Franklin, Martha Munizzi, Andraé Crouch, and Tasha Cobbs. That is my account of those stages. It is not an endorsement from them.
Here in Dallas I am host and convener of the Dallas Festival of Worship, KAVOD 2026, themed Encounter His Glory. On my Facebook page I describe myself as a gospel artist, pastor, and worship mentor.
Music is my calling, my ministry, and my business. Albums I have released include Mighty God (2007), Mambo Sawa-sawa, and Greater Things, recorded live at the Lyric Theatre and released in 2016. Mighty God and Mambo Sawa-sawa are not on the streaming catalogs linked on this site.
You can stream Greater Things, and later singles: Celebrate (Live), Oluwa Is Involved (2018, which I wrote and produced), Imela (2021), and I See Miracles (Live) (2022, produced by Stanley Ogene). I record in connection with Lambano Music Production. I founded Lambano Music Ministry.
I also teach. I have led free musical workshops, vocal coaching, and writing on music ministry. The films on my channel show me conducting choir in Dallas.
What I am putting in front of you is the story I have published, the music on streaming services, and the ministry films on my channel. I have not issued a separate résumé of every conference, so I will not invent one here.
What you can see in Dallas is my weekly worship leading and choir direction at RCCG Grace Chapel, guest ministry such as Tehillah praise at RCCG New Life Church, and the Dallas Festival of Worship.
